Peace, one and all…

Welcome to The Corner Reloaded, Abdur Rahman’s experimental poetry blog. For first time visitors, my main blog is Abdur Rahman’s Corner, which you are more than welcome to visit at your leisure.
Here are some of my more recent poetic reflections. These offerings are something of this week’s ‘back catalogue’. At any rate, I hope you enjoy them. May Allah Ta’ala make them beneficial.
This Rain of Me
This life of me,
this business of my self,
is like standing neck-deep
in a river.
So much of me
exists beneath the water’s surface,
hidden from view,
profound in effect.
My unthought selfishnesses
rise like a flood
raging in great anger
towards the sea,
sweeping away all
thought of consequence.
Beloved, I have prayed
and prayed
for this rain of me,
this ego-torrent,
to stop.
Beloved, let the bright sun
of understanding rise
and let these dark waters recede.
So that I might at last say,
here stands a real man,
a real human being.
Desires of Hunger
Beloved, I wish I was more than I am.
I wish I could bring more
to your great feast
than these desires of hunger
and these dreams of thirst.
Beloved, trickery offers no sustenance
and words of great cleverness
do not feed a man.
What, then,
Joy of my heart,
keeps this weary soul
from Your honest provender?
Further Hills
I wish I could stand upon the further hills
beneath the shade of trees.
Then, I could look back
towards the house of my old self,
as a traveller looks back
at the village he has just left.
Then, I would be free to explore
the valleys and forests
of this wider world.
Broadness would become my watchword
and all thought for what is narrow
would depart
and trouble me no more.
Daylight Ends
The daylight is ending
and I am returning home.
The sun turns crimson
and the sky is bathed
in its red magnificence.
Trees line these further hills,
in silent anticipation
of twilight’s caress.
Smooth away these creases,
and let the mellow flame of evening
soften our hearts at this homecoming.
But, most of all.
Blessed be the One Who Maketh It So.
Ma’as salama,
Abdur Rahman
